Life Insurance is not a new phenomenon in Bangladesh. During
nearly 200 years insurance companies, including General and life started
operation in this subcontinent. |

After libation in 1971 the Government of Bangladesh nationalized
the insurance industries in 1972. From 1984 the Gov’t of
Bangladesh allowed insurance companies to operate in the private sector.
Sunlife insurance Company Limited (SLICL)
a third generation life insurance company in Bangladesh, was incorporated on
March 1, 2000 under the companies Act 1994, as a public Ltd. company to
carrying out life insurance business in Bangladesh. |

It obtained certificate for
commencement of business on the same day. It started business with a paid up
capital of Tk. 30 million against an authorized capital of Tk. 200 million.
SLICL is sponsored by a group of renowned
business personality of the country involved with various business such as
insurance, real estate, aluminum, bank, university, money exchange etc.

Vice Chairperson Message
Mrs. Rubina Hamid, daughter of Late Col. A Maleque, psc (Retd.)
and wife of Dr. Kazi Aktar hamid, was born in a respectable Muslim family of
Manikganj. She obtained B. Com (Hons.), M. Com (Management) from Dhaka
University and had her higher education in Canada.
Just after completion of her
academic education she joined the University of Dhaka as a Lecturer and at
present she is an Associate Professor, department of Management, Dhaka
University. She is a founder Sponsor Director and at present the Vice
Chairperson of Sunlife Insurance Co. Ltd.

She is also Sponsor Director of a
number of Companies, which include Bangladesh Thai Aluminum Ltd. Rahan Real
Estate and Construction Ltd., Pristine Color Ltd., world wide Enterprise Ltd.
She is 47 years old and has been serving in the Sunlife Insurance Co. Ltd. for
last 9 years as Vice Chairperson and her contribution for development of the
company is remarkable.
Apart from that, she is of pleasant personality, a
renowned social worker and an ideal housewife in her personal life. She is a
Bangladeshi national. Mrs. Rubina Hamid has traveled to may courtiers in
connection with business and education. |
